Mission Statement

Waterbeach Forward is against the proposal of a new town of 13,000 homes to be built in the Parish of Waterbeach in Cambridgeshire. The proposal is out of proportion with local villages and current infrastructure.

The idea of a new town has been fought off by the community three times already due to many real concerns including road transport problems and flooding risks. Since then Ely has seen significant development and the traffic on the A10 and A14 has increased.

Given the current plan to close Waterbeach Barracks, the Waterbeach Forward committee wants to ensure that any development on the Barracks site following closure will be of real and lasting benefit to the community. Therefore we have developed the Mission as below.

Our Mission:
  • To promote sustainable, responsible development of the Barracks for the benefit of the community.

  • To oppose unsustainable, speculative development on the Barracks that doesn’t benefit the community.
